Cisse tired of sub role

05/10/2005

Liverpool's French striker Djibril Cisse has spoken of his frustration at not playing regularly for the Reds and admits he is considering his Anfield future.

The £14 million signing from Auxerre missed much of his first season at Liverpool with a broken leg but he has returned to full fitness only to find his first team chances limited.

With the World Cup looming, Cisse admits he needs regular action and if boss Rafael Benitez persists in overlooking him then he will have little other option but to request a move when the transfer window reopens in January.

"I accept Rafa Benitez's decisions and I am patient," the 24-year-old said. "But I am not going to remain on the bench all season.

"At the moment it is only the start of the season but if the situation does not change, my thinking will be different in December."

Cisse has seen Benitez repeatedly opt for £7 million new boy Peter Crouch up front, despite the lanky striker failing to find the net since moving to Anfield.

A move for the France international to Marseille was mooted during the summer before both parties ended their interest in a potential transfer, but the club's sporting director, Jose Anigo admits a deal could be resurrected.

"The possibility of taking Cisse on loan will firm up in December. We know that he is not playing at the moment," he said.

"If Djibril is to play in the World Cup finals with France then he needs to be playing regularly. If he wants to come to Marseille he will be made very welcome."
