Collingwood eyes whitewash
25/10/2005
Paul Collingwood has become the first England player to mention the possibility that they might complete a 3-0 Test whitewash against Pakistan in the forthcoming tour.
Speaking before the squad boarded a plane at Heathrow bound for Pakistan, the 29-year-old described a whitewash as "our main goal".
"We're looking at things to achieve and going to Pakistan and India we want to win these series," he said.
"Whether we win them 2-1, 1-0 we're going to be happy to win the series but I certainly think our main goal in Pakistan will be to win 3-0."
The Durham all-rounder played in England's last Test, the finale at the Oval that saw England regain the Ashes, but contributed little.
He dismissed comments made by Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer suggesting England will find it hard to pick themselves up for a tour of the subcontinent after such an exhilarating summer.
"It's an interesting comment but we know where we're heading," Collingwood added.
"We've got our team goals, we know what we want to achieve in the next two years and we're not finished now just because we have won the Ashes."
