Corry demands victory
08/11/2005
England captain Martin Corry believes that England must beat Australia at Twickenham on Saturday to give them the confidence to have a successful season.
The world champions struggled last term as they followed up on their triumph in Sydney with a disastrous Six Nations campaign where they finished fourth.
However, the Australians have also struggled recently and have lost their last six games.
Therefore, England's new leader wants to start the new season with a win, however it comes.
"Performance is important, and it would be nice to have that and the result - but I would take a 6-3 win," Corry said.
"We are all about winning, and that is where we have got to get back to."
Australia have won both encounters since England's World Cup final win over the Wallabies so victory at Twickenham on Saturday is seen as a must for coach Andy Robinson's men, both in terms of banishing those memories and gaining form for the future.
However, Corry has warned the England players that victory won't be easy and that they must not lose focus, especially with the All Blacks game looming on the horizon.
"Against Australia last year, we got ourselves in a position to win the game but we let it slip so we've got to take this chance to put things right," Corry added.
"But if we take an eye off Australia, they are going to come and sting us, and that is something we are not prepared to see happen."
