Crocked McGinley set for time out
31/10/2005
Paul McGinley has been brought crashing back down to earth with the news that he is likely to face up to ten weeks on the treatment table.
The Irish star clinched the Volvo Masters in Spain on Sunday which put an end to a frustrating four-year victory drought on tour.
He eclipsed home favourite Sergio Garcia by two shots on the final day to record his fourth career title and surge to third in the race for Ryder Cup points.
The 38-year-old was understandably elated with the win, describing it as one of the biggest of his career, and said he was keen to now build on the result in the season's final few events.
However, a problematic knee injury has returned and it now looks as though McGinley will have to undergo surgery.
"It's been bothering me and I've got an appointment for a scan," he said.
"It returned this week after six weeks of being pain-free and it looks like I'm going to have to have an operation."
The Dubliner did add that he hopes to delay the operation until after next week's HSBC Champions Tournament in Shanghai and the following week's World Cup in Portugal.
