Crocked Shaw out of Wallabies clash
02/11/2005
Simon Shaw is rated highly unlikely to be able to play for England against Australia in ten days' time because of a troublesome back injury.
The Wasps lock was thought to be in line for a starting place alongside Bath's second row Danny Grewcock for the high profile fixture.
However, medical chiefs have said the injury, which forced Shaw off at half-time during Wasps' Heineken Cup draw with Toulouse on Sunday, is not responding to treatment as quickly as hoped.
"The England medical team have been in regular contact with London Wasps regarding the back injury sustained by Simon Shaw last weekend and have decided that Simon should stay with his club for further treatment," England head coach Andy Robinson said.
"We will continue to monitor his progress but it looks likely that he will not be considered for selection for the Investec Challenge match against Australia.
"At this stage I do not intend to call up any replacements for Simon and there are no other concerns regarding injuries," he added.
The news means Grewcock's Bath team-mate Steve Borthwick could be drafted in to face Australia.
Robinson also suggested he will announce his starting line-up on Sunday.
