Davenport takes 50th career title
09/10/2005
Lindsay Davenport won the 50th singles event of her career with victory over Amelie Mauresmo in the final of the Filderstadt Grand Prix.
The defending champion defeated Mauresmo 6-2 6-4 in Germany to take her fifth tournament of the year.
Davenport got off to a flying start, going 4-1 up in the first set, which she won comfortably, after breaking Mauresmo to love in her second service game.
The American saved two break points before serving out the set and was made to come from behind in the second.
Mauresmo took command in the second set and looked like taking the match to a decider, only to squander her advantage.
The Frenchwoman broke Davenport, to go 4-2 up, only to see the world number two break straight back.
Davenport broke the world number four's serve again in the ninth game of the set and went on to take the match.
"I am excited to get to 50 titles, it means a lot to me," said Davenport.
"I thought I was really in control and that's what I wanted to be. I felt like I was playing really well and dictating the points and even when I lost a few games I really felt I made some errors but was hitting the ball well."
Davenport has now recorded ten consecutive victories over Mauresmo.
