Diouf charged with drink driving
31/10/2005
Bolton star El Hadji Diouf has today been charged with drink driving.
The 24-year-old Senegalese forward was stopped and arrested by police in the early hours of Sunday morning, just hours after his side beat Charlton 1-0 at the Valley.
He was bailed and will now appear at Bolton magistrates court on Tuesday November 21st for sentencing.
Greater Manchester police confirmed: "El Hadji Diouf was stopped on Blackburn Road by an officer at 04:20 GMT, who requested he take a breath test.
"He was then arrested and taken to Astley Bridge police station, where he was charged with drink driving."
The news represents just the latest in a line of blows for a striker whose career has been shrouded in controversy since moving to Liverpool from French club Lens for £10 million in 2002.
A star of the 2002 World Cup, Diouf is due to stand trial for a public order offence at Teesside magistrates court on December 8th after spitting at a fan during a game.
He has also faced disciplinary action from both Bolton, who he moved to from Liverpool initially on loan, and from the Football Association last season for spitting in the face of Portsmouth skipper Arjan de Zeeuw.
