Dunn set for comeback
06/10/2005
David Dunn is poised to return from his injury nightmare and has pencilled in Birmingham's massive local derby with Aston Villa on October 16th as a potential date to do just that.
The talented midfielder has had his career blighted by injuries, meaning he has dropped from the brink of the full England squad in to virtual footballing oblivion.
A recurring hamstring problem hampered his previous comeback attempts but he is now on the verge of making his first appearance since featuring in the Blues' boxing day clash with Middlesbrough.
"I'm going to play a reserve game next week, I think that's at Everton, and hopefully I will be in contention for the Villa game," Dunn told Sky Sports.
"Hopefully, I've done everything I need to do to get back playing. There is only so much running you can do, then you need games really."
Dunn, now 25, also took time to pay tribute to boss Steve Bruce for keeping faith with him and insisted he is now looking forward to repaying the Birmingham manager.
"Through everything, the boss has been there for me and that's another reason why I want to come back," he added.
"Results haven't been too good recently. Hopefully, I can come back and repay some of the faith he's shown in me and the way he's stood by me and start repaying him on the pitch."
