England arrive in Pakistan
26/10/2005
The England squad arrived in Pakistan this morning at the start of what will prove to be a gruelling two-month tour.
The team were met by something in the region of 150 police officers and soldiers, since the tour is surrounded in controversy regarding security issues.
The Ashes heroes were taken to a hotel in Islamabad, excepting two of the summer's stars, Steve Harmison and Andrew Flintoff.
The fast-bowling duo will arrive in Pakistan next week having been given an extra few days to rest after their exertions for the World team against Australia.
Meanwhile England spinner Ashley Giles has issued a word of warning, saying that it will be a "very tough series".
The King of Spain said: "Everyone is on a high still and very excited about what has happened in the Ashes. But this is another stepping stone to becoming the best side in the world, so we still have a lot of work to do.
"We have to draw strength from what we have done and learn from our experiences, but it will be a tough and very different challenge."
Giles is joined by two other spinners, Shaun Udal and Alex Loudon, in the squad and some pundits are predicting that England may field two spinners in one or all of the Tests.
"We have three spinners, and I don't think any of them will be written off. I have to do my job, because I have two guys up my back now looking to put me under pressure," Giles said.
