England capitulate in Lahore
08/11/2005
England's out-of-sorts cricket team have failed to reverse their fortunes by stumbling to a six-wicket loss at the hands of Pakistan A in their final warm-up match in Lahore.
The hosts needed just 245 runs to win at the start of their second innings, after having bowled England out for 256, and only briefly looked in doubt of reaching this target.
Matthew Hoggard achieved an early breakthrough for the tourists, removing Taufeeq Umar (15) with the help of keeper Geraint Jones.
But Pakistan A responded in style and knocks from opener Imran Farhat (37*), Shahid Nazir (43), Shahid Yousuf (57) and Hasan Raza (71) frustrated England's bowling attack.
All-rounder Andrew Flintoff was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets, but even he proved too expensive as his ten overs went for 67 runs.
The loss comes as a major blow for an England side who now head into the first Test against Pakistan low on confidence and lacking form.
