England unshaken by earthquake
10/10/2005
The horrific earthquake in Pakistan on Saturday will not prevent the England cricket team from touring the country in the coming weeks.
Colin Gibson, communications director of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), told the BBC: "At this stage there is no indication the tour is in any doubt or the tour schedule affected in any way."
Gibson added that the ECB sends its condolences to the Pakistani people affected by the earthquake.
Meanwhile Rameez Raja, former chief executive of the Pakistan Cricket Board, said: "There is no infrastructure damage of any severity where cricket is to be played so I see no reason why the tour should be in jeopardy."
England are due to arrive in Pakistan on October 26th, with their first game less than a week later in Rawalpindi, an area close to the zone struck by the earthquake.
Mr Raja hoped that the tour, which includes three Tests and five one-day internationals, will help "heal" the wounds caused by the earthquake, and go some way to taking people's minds off the tragedy.
