Everton gunning for minor miracle
29/09/2005
David Moyes believes Everton can overturn their 5-1 first-leg deficit against Uefa Cup opponents Dinamo Bucharest at Goodison Park tonight.
The Romanian side demolished the Toffees a fortnight ago but Moyes insists the four-goal lead is not unassailable.
"Our task is certainly not impossible but we need to make sure that the game doesn't get slowed down too often, which has every chance of happening," the Scottish coach said.
"We have given ourselves a bigger task than we had hoped but if they can do it to us then I hope we can do it to them.
"Goals change games and although we made mistakes in Bucharest, their finishing was clinical."
He added: "The players are all determined to get something from the game. I can sense it and I can see it in them."
But while Moyes is remaining positive about pulling off what would be one of the comebacks in Uefa Cup history, his side have been dealt a blow by the news that Welsh midfielder Simon Davies is likely to be sidelined through injury.
Davies is struggling with an ankle knock picked up in training and will face a late fitness test before kick-off.
Moyes does not have any other fresh injury concerns, although Lee Carsley does look set for an extended period out of the game as he will be undergoing further surgery on his problematic knee injury.
Striker James Beattie will make a return after a toe injury but will start the game on the bench.
