FA intervenes in Mourinho Wenger spat
03/11/2005
The Football Association have told Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger to end their futile spat, reports claim today.
According to Sky Sports, Jonathan Hall, chief of the FA's compliance unit, has spoken to both clubs and urged caution.
Hall met with Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon and Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein and told them that both clubs could be charged with bringing the game into disrepute unless their managers call a truce.
An FA spokesperson said: "The clubs are expected to control their managers. I am sure they have got the message that any repetition is sure to lead to charges."
Meanwhile, John Barnwell, chief executive of the League Managers' Association, has also urged the duelling pair to stop their exchanges although he said he has not actually met with either yet.
"We will be making every effort to speak to them before the weekend and pointing out that it is not acceptable to have two senior managers having an acrimonious debate through the media," Barnwell said.
"It is two of our senior managers - albeit terrific senior managers - having a tit-for-tat. I don't expect them to shake hands but I expect them to put the thing to bed."
The row escalated after the Arsenal coach threatened legal action against his Chelsea counterpart for calling him a "voyeur".
