Fergie anger at high ticket prices
25/09/2005
Sir Alex Ferguson has expressed his anger at the high cost of match tickets at some London clubs.
The Manchester United manager, whose side suffered a surprise 2-1 reverse at home to Blackburn yesterday, was particularly unhappy with the way certain clubs charge more for specific games.
"Some clubs increase prices depending on who they are playing. I can't understand why the they've been allowed to get away with it for so long," said Ferguson.
"London clubs are allowed to charge more for certain matches than they do for others. It's not on."
Ferguson picked out Chelsea as particular offenders and suggested that their attendances might benefit if they reduced ticket prices.
"It always happens when Manchester United go down there so when we play Chelsea, for example, it costs fans a fortune to get into the game," added the Red Devils boss.
"That shouldn't be allowed to happen. What exactly do the Office of Fair Trading do?
"Cheap tickets don't guarantee you will sell out your stadium - we would pack our ground every week regardless of the cost - but it would certainly help at other clubs."
