Fletcher and O'Shea secure United contracts
14/10/2005
Manchester United have signed up midfielder Darren Fletcher and defender John O'Shea to new contracts which will keep them tied to the club until 2009.
Both players have established themselves as key members of the squad, with O'Shea a long-term regular in the United first 11 and winger Fletcher playing an increasingly prominent role since the departure of David Beckham.
Both players have come through from the United academy, with Sir Alex Ferguson expressing his pleasure at the news.
"We're all delighted. It represents our vision of making sure all the young players are with us for a long period of time. That's something the supporters recognise and appreciate," he said.
"Keeping that group of players together also gives us a foundation on which we can work for the next few years and try and maintain the success we've had over the last 15 years."
The pair have started ten of the season's 11 games so far together and can count nearly 250 appearances between them already.
