Flintoff named player of the year

27/09/2005

Andrew Flintoff regained his title as the NatWest Professional Cricketers’ Association player of the year at an Albert Hall awards ceremony last night.

It comes as no surprise that the heroic Lancastrian should receive the award for the second year running, after being named man of the series in England’s 2-1 Ashes victory this summer.

But the talismanic all-rounder was already looking ahead to the winter tours, saying: "The Ashes was hard but I'm sure Pakistan is going to be equally hard. The sub-continent always holds its own challenges."

Other members of the victorious England team were similarly forward-looking, including Ashley Giles, King of Spain.
"[The celebrations] have been great but it's the last hurrah. We're back in the gym after this," he said.

"We've a lot of preparation to do before we fly out to Pakistan."

England are to face Pakistan in three Tests and five one-dayers. The tour begins on October 26th.
