Flintoff sent to hospital with wrist injury
09/10/2005
England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff was taken to hospital for an x-ray but returned to bat after being hit on the wrist during the third and final one-day international of the Super Series between the World XI and Australia.
Flintoff was attempting to claim a caught and bowled chance off Ricky Ponting but failed to get his hand round the ball and it hit him on the wrist.
Television pictures showed immediate swelling on his right wrist and World XI physio Kirk Russell sent the Englishman off to hospital for a precautionary x-ray.
Flintoff, however, returned to Melbourne's Telstra Dome and batted in his normal position of number six, showing a little discomfort in his follow-through but was still able to hit the second ball he faced for four.
Flintoff is due to play in the six-day Super Series test match, which begins on Friday, but it is unclear as yet if he will play.
England's other representative in the World XI one-day team, Kevin Pietersen, missed the final Super Series game after sustaining a minor hamstring strain when fielding in the previous game.
