Forlan claims Arsenal interest
30/10/2005
Former Manchester United forward Diego Forlan claims Arsenal are interested in signing him.
The Uruguayan had a tough two-and-a-half-year spell at Old Trafford after a £7 million move to the Premiership giants, from Independiente, in January 2002.
Forlan failed to settle in England or win a regular place in United's starting line-up, scoring just 17 goals in 98 appearances.
However the talented striker has rejuvenated his career in Spain with Villarreal, who he joined in August 2004.
Forlan scored 25 goals in 37 games last season, firing the Yellow Submarines into the Champions League and winning the European Golden Shoe.
The 26-year-old claims that this form has alerted Arsene Wenger, who is seeking to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window.
"There is interest and Arsenal have been to watch me," Forlan told the News of the World.
"I don't know what has been said but there has been some contact. We will have to wait to see what happens."
Forlan added that he would be interested in playing in the Premiership again, despite his unsuccessful spell in the north-west.
