Fulham felled by Ruud and Roon show
01/10/2005
Goals from Ruud van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney gave Manchester United victory in a five-goal thriller at Craven Cottage.
Sir Alex Ferguson's side recovered from last week's defeat at home to Blackburn Rovers to take all three points against a resilient Fulham.
United found themselves a goal down within just 90 seconds as Collins John took advantage of sloppy defending by Rio Ferdinand to score.
Van Nistelrooy equalised for United in the 17th minute, converting a penalty after Moritz Volz had fouled Ji-Sung Park inside the box.
And just two minutes later, a shell-shocked Fulham were behind, Rooney latching onto a Park through ball to fire past goalkeeper Mark Crossley.
The United defence, without Gary Neville and Gabriel Heinze, still looked vulnerable, and Fulham got back on level terms within the half-hour, thanks to a Claus Jensen free-kick.
The pulsating first half, and the match, was settled seconds before the interval, as
Van Nistelrooy notched his second of the game, and seventh league goal of the season, Park again the provider.
The only disappointing note for United came just before the hour mark, when Kieran Richardson picked up an injury and had to be replaced by Phil Bardsley.
The win sees Ferguson's men move into fourth place, while Fulham, with just one win all season, slip to 17th.
