Goosen out of Volvo Masters
18/10/2005
South Africa's Retief Goosen will not play in the Volvo Masters next week after failing to recover from a groin injury, leaving Colin Montgomerie and Michael Campbell to fight it out for the European Order of Merit.
Goosen, who currently lies third in the Order of Merit listings, 326,345 behind the leader Montgomerie, won the title in 2001 and 2002 but has decided against playing at Valderrama.
The South African's withdrawal will now see a straight shoot-out between seven-time Order of Merit winner Montgomerie and US Open champion Campbell for the title.
Montgomerie currently leads Campbell by 153,487 and will win the Order of Merit if he finishes above the New Zealander in the Volvo Masters, which begins next Thursday.
Campbell must finish in the top five at the event to have any chance of overhauling the Scot, but to have any real chance he must finish first or second.
Neither player is playing in this week's Mallorca Open, the only other European Tour event left this year.
