Goran to play in Davis Cup final
26/09/2005
Goran Ivanisevic has announced that he will come out of retirement to play for Croatia in the Davis Cup final in December.
The 2001 Wimbledon champion, who retired two years after his dramatic victory, will have to face Sasa Tuksar in order to qualify for the team.
But Ivanisevic claims he will be present in some capacity even if he loses.
"I'll be there as fourth player or assistant coach," he said.
The lanky big-server praised Nikolav Ljubicic, the man who got Croatia to the final with nine straight Davis Cup victories to lead his team to a 3-1 win over Russia on Sunday.
"This should be called the Ljubicic Cup not the Davis Cup," he said.
"It's unbelievable to win nine matches in a row, not easy matches either. He's a real hero."
The 34-year-old national hero added: "For us to be in the final is great for the sport, the country - it's unbelievable."
