Hargreaves pens new Bayern deal
14/10/2005
England international Owen Hargreaves has signed a new deal with Bayern Munich, ending speculation that he could move to the Premiership in January.
Hargreaves has agreed an extension to his existing contract that will now keep him with the German champions until 2010.
Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool were linked with a move for the versatile midfield player in the summer.
The 24-year-old has been a regular member of Sven Goran Eriksson's squad and playing in the Premiership may have increased his chances of securing a starting place in time for the World Cup next summer.
Instead Hargreaves will stay with the club he joined as a teenager and help them defend their Bundesliga crown.
Speaking to the club's official website after signing his new contract, Hargreaves said the current Bayern team was "capable of winning the Champions' League".
Hargreaves is one of six current England players to have won Europe's top club competition. He also picked up three league winners' medals during his time in Bavaria.
