Monty eager for Woods challenge
09/11/2005
Colin Montgomerie has today admitted he can hardly wait to go head to head with world number one Tiger Woods in Shanghai on Thursday and Friday this week.
The Scot and the American have been paired together for the first two rounds of the HSBC Champions Tournament and will be joined with China's Zhang Lianwei.
And 42-year-old Monty has said the draw is an ideal opportunity to test his current form as he commences the defence of the Order of Merit title he won last month.
"When you play with the best player of our generation, it's interesting and a good experience. I'm excited about it," Monty said.
He added: "The first time you play with Tiger you tend to get caught up playing him and trying to play his game.
"I got caught up in that the first time I played with him in 1997 at Atlanta. I've realised I'm not going to do that. I will be playing my own game."
Meanwhile, this week's event, being staged at the Sheshan International golf club, has also been confirmed as the first competition to carry with it qualification points for the 2006 HSBC World Match Play championship at Wentworth in Surrey.
