Robson interested in Hearts job
23/10/2005
Former England and Newcastle manager Sir Bobby Robson has admitted that he would be interested in taking over as Hearts manager after George Burley's shock departure yesterday.
The 72-year-old was reportedly interested in taking over in the summer but decided against it for personal reasons, leaving Hearts to appoint Burley as manager.
Now with Burley gone, Robson hinted in the Mail on Sunday that he could take over at Tynecastle.
"I didn't take the Hearts job before for personal reasons but my circumstances are different now," Robson said.
"It's an attractive job and I left Mr Romanov [Hearts' owner] on good terms."
Hearts said in a statement yesterday that they would take their time over appointing a top-class manager but with Robson in Edinburgh this week for the funeral of his friend and former Fulham striker Johnny Haynes, an appointment could come sooner.
The linking of such a respected name with the job has shown how far the Edinburgh club, who currently sit top of the Scottish Premier League with nine wins and two draws, have come since Vladimir Romanov took over and pumped millions into the club.
However, it is expected that many potential managers will be put off the position as Burley publicly admitted before he left that he was unhappy with Romanov's interference in team affairs.
