Rose chasing Beem in Florida
23/10/2005
Britain's Justin Rose moved into contention as he shot an eight-under par 64 in the third round of the Funai Classic in Orlando which was suspended for a second day because of storms.
The Englishman sits on 17-under par for the tournament, two shots behind America's Rich Beem, who in turn enjoys a one shot lead over fellow Americans Mark Wilson and Mark Calcavecchia.
Four others, Tim Clark, Carl Pettersson, Tom Pernice Jr. and Geoff Ogilvy, are also only a shot behind the leader but their rounds were truncated as thunderstorms meant play was suspended with them, and 21 others, yet to complete their third rounds.
However, as play ended early for the second successive day because of storms, Beem may win the title without swinging another club as the approaching Hurricane Wilma threatens to wash out the final round.
Beem shot a third round 63 to claim the clubhouse lead from Swede Pettersson, who still has three holes to play.
Rose hit seven birdies and an eagle in his round but a bogey on the tenth spoilt a good round for the 25-year-old.
Rose will be hoping to improve on his best PGA Tour finish, a third at the Buick Championship in August.
