Sommeil out for six weeks
03/11/2005
Manchester City defender David Sommeil will be out of action for six weeks after suffering a fractured cheekbone against Aston Villa.
Sommeil injured himself after accidentally colliding with Villa defender Jlloyd Samuel during City's 3-1 victory at the City of Manchester Stadium.
Doctors operated yesterday and it is hoped he will make a full recovery ahead of a scheduled December return.
City manager Stuart Pearce said that Sommeil would soon return to training while the injury healed and praised his defender's bravery.
"It was no surprise to me that he had got a depressed cheekbone, I'm delighted that he did not get another bang on it when he went back out on the pitch," he said.
"I will speak to David today and see if there is anything we can do for him"
He added that it was unfortunate for the player after working his way into the side on the back of strong reserve performances.
However, there was some encouraging news for Pearce, as Irish international Richard Dunne made a successful return from a knee injury in a reserve team game.
The defender is likely to take Sommeil's place for Saturday's fixture at Fulham.
