Sorenstam leaves all in her wake
16/10/2005
World number one Annika Sorenstam moved four shots clear with one round to play in the Samsung World Championships in California.
Sorenstam currently sits at 15-under after a round of 66, which included four birdies on the final five holes, four ahead of South Korea's Gloria Park and five ahead of teenager Michelle Wie.
Overall, Sorenstam hit eight birdies in her third-round but bogeys on the 9th and 11th restricted her lead over the chasing pack.
"Local knowledge really helps and I've also got great memories of my win here last year," Sorenstam said.
"It was a very solid round and now I'm just looking forward to a great Sunday."
Teenage prodigy Wie started the day in a strong position at nine-under with Sorenstam but she could not build on yesterday's performance and carded a one-under-par 71.
Wie's day started badly as she hit a bogey on the second and then a double-bogey seven on the third.
She recovered with birdies on the sixth, 12th, 15th and 18th but was still not happy with her performance.
"I'm pleased I managed to bring it round and that I'm still in contention," Wie said.
"I didn't really play very well today, but hopefully tomorrow will be better."
