Strauss on baby alert
30/10/2005
England batsman Andrew Strauss could miss a deciding final test against Pakistan to be with his wife as she gives birth to their first child.
The opener, who averages 50.47, hasn't missed a test match since breaking into the team last summer against New Zealand.
However, with his wife, Ruth, due to give birth on November 28th, the day before the final, and possibly deciding, test would begin, Strauss has admitted that he may be forced to fly home if he gets the call.
"I have always believed there are some things in life that are more important than cricket," Strauss said.
"This, for me, is one of them and the England management have been very supportive."
Strauss is not the only England player to have an expecting spouse.
Captain Michael Vaughan has said that he will stay in Pakistan, even though his wife, Nichola, is expecting their second child in December.
Andrew Flintoff is also expecting a second child with his wife, Rachel, but he hasn't said if he will fly home to be at the birth.
