Uefa to probe Jestrovic dismissal
02/11/2005
Uefa have said they are looking in to the race slur surrounding the dismissal of Anderlecht's Nenad Jestrovic in his side's Champions League clash at Liverpool last night.
The striker was red-carded by match referee Kim Milton Nielsen in the 75th minute for what was deemed to be racial aggression directed at Reds midfielder Mohamed Sissoko.
Jestrovic has rigorously denied the claim but the competition's governing body confirmed an investigation will be launched.
"Uefa has opened disciplinary proceedings against RSC Anderlecht striker Nenad Jestrovic after his dismissal in last night's Champions League match against Liverpool FC," a statement from Uefa said.
The statement added that the case will be heard by Uefa's control and disciplinary body next Monday.
Frank Vercauteren, the coach of the Belgian side, said after the game that any action should be held until the results of the investigation.
"If it was racial abuse, I cannot condone that," he added.
"The other player should also have been sent off as well. He said something similar. These things should not be said, but I do not intend to punish my player further."
