Warnock won't be replacing Perrin
09/11/2005
Sheffield United have rubbished rumours that manager Neil Warnock is being lined up to replace under-fire Portsmouth boss Alain Perrin.
Rumours about his possible departure have dogged the Pompey boss for weeks as the club sit 15th in the Premiership and have only won four of the 19 games the Frenchman has been in charge.
Now, the Blades, who sit top of the Championship, have been forced to deny rumours that Portsmouth want Warnock to succeed Perrin at Fratton Park.
"This story started back in October and it's dragged on since then," United vice chairman, Terry Robinson, said.
"We expect there to be speculation over Neil because he is one of the best managers in the country but he's more than happy to be at Sheffield United."
Speculation over Perrin's future increased today when the Daily Star reported that Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandraic will give the Frenchman three weeks to turn the fortunes of the club around or face the axe.
If these reports are correct, the prognosis for Perrin is poor as Pompey's next three games are against Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United.
However, if Perrin does leave the manager's job on the south coast, the Blades insist he won't be replaced by Warnock.
"The club are highly delighted to have Neil as manager and we are happy with what he is doing," Robinson added.
"He is under contract and that's all there is to it."
