Wie hopes to make her mark in Hawaii
26/10/2005
Teenage golf sensation Michelle Wie is hoping to make her mark on the men's game in Hawaii next year.
The 16-year-old will go up against the world's best at the PGA Sony Open in January.
Despite missing the cut in her previous two appearances at the event, Wie is hoping for a better showing this time around.
The American, who was born in Hawaii, turned professional at the beginning of October.
"We're in the entertainment business, it's more than just a golf event," said PGA Tour vice president Ric Clarson.
"So when a player like Michelle plays in the Sony Open, it creates national and international attention."
In her first tournament on the women's tour earlier this month, Wie was disqualified for making an illegal drop.
Despite an indifferent start to her professional career, Wie is expected to have a major impact on the game and one day present a challenge to the established stars of the men's tour.
