Wie two behind at Bighorn
15/10/2005
Michelle Wie shot her lowest round on the LPGA Tour as she completed a seven-under-par 65 to move within two shots of leader Grace Park at the Samsung World Championship in California.
Wie is currently in a three-way tie for second place at the Bighorn Golf Club along with world number one Annika Sorenstam and American Paula Creamer chasing South Korea's Park, who leads the event at 11-under.
The teenager, in her first event as a professional, shot a bogey-free round which included five birdies on the front nine and two more on the back nine.
"The big difference was it was my second day as a pro so although I didn't feel that nervous yesterday, I felt the difference today," Wie said.
Wie also had to contend with a swarm of bees as she was granted a free drop on the 14th by the match referee after hitting her shot into a bush and couldn't play because it was classed as too dangerous.
"There were tons and tons of bees and I remember watching golf on TV once when someone got relief for fire ants, and so I asked," Wie added.
"I could have maybe played it, but it wouldn't have been a smart move."
