Williams Skelton fight verging on farce
05/10/2005
The re-scheduled heavyweight boxing match between top British pair Danny Williams and Matt Skelton could be about to fall apart for a second time.
The two were due to meet for the national title in July but Williams pulled out at the 11th hour, a decision which angered and embarrassed in equal measure the fight's promoters.
A date of December 3rd was then agreed with the British Boxing Board of Control to see Williams and Skelton meet in London but now this has been put in doubt.
Williams, who shot to boxing notoriety by knocking out Mike Tyson last year, has slammed his potential opponent for stalling after he cancelled a planned press conference.
"Now he [Skelton] is making more obstacles by demanding I take another cut in my purse so he can have more money for the fight," Williams said.
"Skelton is the one who is scared and he is doing everything he can to avoid fighting me.
"At the moment it looks like the only way Skelton is going to be prepared to fight me is if I go up to Bedford myself and flush out the big ugly bear," he added.
Skelton has said he will only fight if he is given an extra £50,000, which he insists, should be taken out of Williams' fight purse.
