Anthony Kim leads Wachovia Championship by four shots

04/05/2008

American youngster Anthony Kim leads the Wachovia Championship by four strokes heading into the final round.

Kim is on 13-under-par thanks to an error-free round of six-under on day three of the tournament. Having started tied for second place the 22-year-old managed to forge into the lead halfway through his round and was able to stretch his advantage on the back nine.

Overnight leader Jason Bohn and fellow American Heath Slocum are Kim's nearest rivals on nine-under-par, while Stewart Cink managed to jump up 37 places thanks to his third round 65. He is now one shot further back on eight-under.

Kim birdied the first hole before making three birdies in five holes at the end of the front nine. A birdie at the 14th preceded an excellent finish to his round as he birdied the 18th.

Kim is only competing on the PGA tour for the second year and winning the Wachovia Championship would hand him his maiden tour title.

Having had four top ten finishes last season the American feels he can finish the weekend on top. He said: "I feel like I'm ready, but you never know."

Bohn, who played with Kim during the third round but could only manage to card a round of even-par, said it would be hard to close the four stroke gap.

"If he plays like he did today, we're not going to be able to catch him," Bohn said. "But the finish on this golf course is phenomenal, because anything can happen."

Former champion Jim Furyk who had been in contention to regain the title slipped away slightly on day three after carding a round of one-under-par. He is now six shots adrift of the leader.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18579868-ADNFCR
