Azinger names US Ryder Cup team
02/09/2008
United States Ryder Cup captain Paul Azinger has named his 12-man team today.
Azinger decided to award his four captains picks to Steve Strickler, Hunter Mahan, J.B. Holmes and Chad Campbell.
The four join the eight players who have already automatically qualified by virtue of their standing on the US Ryder Cup points list.
They include: Phil Mickelson, Stewart Cink, Kenny Perry, Jim Furyk, Anthony Kim, Justin Leonard, Ben Curtis and Boo Weekley.
The Ryder Cup is set to begin in Valhalla in two weeks time.
The US team is relatively inexperienced compared to their European counterparts, with six US members never playing in the famous event before.
Europe's captain Nick Faldo named his final 12-man team on Sunday, controversially choosing Paul Casey and Ian Poulter as his wildcard selections, overlooking Ryder Cup veterans Darren Clarke and Colin Montgomerie.
Azinger is aiming to lead the US to their first Ryder Cup victory since 1999.
