Bradley Dredge leads Alfred Dunhill Links
07/10/2006
Welsh golfer Bradley Dredge holds an unexpected one shot lead over Irish Ryder Cup Hero Padraig Harrington in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews.
The 33-year-old, who has won twice on the European tour, including at the European Masters this year, was well-placed on 13 under par after 15 holes, with Harrington in the clubhouse at 12 under par.
Other players in the chasing pack included the 1999 British Open winner Pawl Lawrie on eight under par, with South Africa's Ernie Els and Fiji's Vijay Singh also being on a similar score.
Having led his European Order of Merit rival David Howell by ten shots after the second round, Paul Casey had dropped two shots over the course of the third round to be placed on five under par.
However, he still held a substantial lead over Howell, who had only managed to improve his overnight lead by one shot.
Howell told the BBC after his second round: "I don't think I'm the only one suffering a comedown after the Ryder Cup. It looks like I'm going to fall at the final hurdle."
