Brian Davis leads pack at Honda Classic at halfway stage
01/03/2008
England's Brian Davis is one shot clear at the Honda Classic in Florida after carding a three-under par second-round score of 67.
Five birdies, only spoiled by a bogey and a double bogey, gave Davis an overall score of eight-under on 132.
Australian Matt Jones trails the Londoner by a shot after also ending his second round on 67, while 2000 winner Dudley Hart is a shot further back after going round in 66.
That leaves John Mallinger and Ben Crane tied for fourth on five-under, while South Africa's Ernie Els is among six players on three-under par.
But overnight leader Luke Donald has fallen off the pace after the Englishman endured a nightmare second round that included a quadruple-bogey on the 14th.
Davis, who has dropped only three shots as he bids for his maiden US PGA Tour title, insisted he was not getting carried away.
"I've won a couple of times in Europe and I've won Q-school here, I know what it is going to take to win," he told reporters.
"We've got a long way to go yet and there are a lot of good players around the top of the leaderboard.
"Around here, it's going to come down to the last nine holes, just the way the course is set up."
