Britain's Luke Donald takes shared lead at Honda Classic
02/03/2008
British golfer Luke Donald is joint top of the leaderboard at the Honda Classic after recovering from a poor second round on Friday.
Donald finished six-under par after the third round to take the lead along with Australian Matt Jones and American Mark Calcavecchia.
After carding a 74 on Friday, Donald upped his game to post a four-under par 66 yesterday in south-Florida.
"I was a little bit disappointed after the second round. I had one really bad hole on 14 so it was nice to bounce back and play very solid today. There's a lot of danger out there. There's some very daunting shots, a lot of scary shots with a lot of water around," said Donald.
He added that it would be nice to come back and "have a good chance tomorrow".
The Englishman, who won the competition in 2006, recorded a bogie-free round, scoring back-to back birdies on the 16th and 17th holes.
Calcavecchia started his round emphatically, birdying on three of his first four holes, but his momentum slowed and he recorded just one more birdie in the final 14.
Brian Davis, the leader going into the third round, had a frustrating time and is now one shot off the lead after scoring a three over 73.
