Byrd among five-man leading group in Georgia
16/05/2008
Five Americans, including Jonathan Byrd and Kenny Perry, are tied for the lead after the first round of the AT&T Classic in Atlanta, Georgia.
Jonathan Kaye, Ryan Palmer and Parker McLachlin are also at the top of the leaderboard following their six-under-par 66s.
Byrd and McLachlin were the only two players to card bogeys on their rounds, with Byrd in particular recovering from a double bogey at the par-four seventh as he shot five birdies on the back nine.
Charles Howell III, David Toms, Ted Purdy and Bob Sowards are one shot back after five-under-par first rounds.
The top-rated player in the tournament, Stewart Cink - who is third on the 2008 money list - is also well in contention after a first-round 68, four under par.
England's Brian Davis is the top-rated European player on three under par, although he still has one hole to play after being forced to come in early on the first day.
Former Masters champion Zach Johnson is alongside Davis on three under, with fellow American Heath Slocum and Australia's Nick O'Hern also tied for 20th place.
