Chilean Aguilar leads at halfway stage in Jakarta
15/02/2008
Chilean Felipe Aguilar fired a stunning round of 62 to lead by two strokes at the halfway stage of the Indonesian Open in Jakarta.
Aguilar sunk eight birdies to lie on 13 under at the Cengkareng Golf Club, while South African James Kamte (67) and Thailand's Prom Meesawat (63) share second place on 11-under.
Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke went round in 67 to lie on five-under, eight shots off the lead.
Thailand's Prayad Marksaeng and Austrian Martin Wiegele both shot 65 to tie for fourth on ten under, one stroke behind India's Jeev Milkha Singh.
But Aguilar, 33, stole the show with a sublime round in his bid for his first European Tour title.
The Chilean said mentally he is prepared for victory.
"I have the will and I have the game - I just need to wait for the right week and hopefully it is this one," Aguilar said.
"I would take eight under every day - two more of those and I will have a chance. But at the same time I know there is still a long way to go.
"I have led tournaments by two or three shots before at the halfway stage and lost by five or six shots so there is a long way to go."
Meanwhile veteran Clarke, who hit a hole-in-one on the par-three fourth, said he is looking to improve his putting.
"It would be nice to put a low [score] in tomorrow," said Clarke.
"If I can get down to 23 or 24 putts then I could move up the leaderboard."
