Choi wins star-studded AT&T

09/07/2007

South Korea's KJ Choi has won the AT&T National by three shots from a star-studded field, including tournament host Tiger Woods.

Choi shot a final-round 68, two under par for the day, to finish the tournament on nine-under overall.

He held off the challenge of American Steve Stricker, who could only manage an even-par round of 70 on day four. Countryman Pat Perez finished strongly (final-round three-under-par) to take third place alongside Jim Furyk and overnight leader Stuart Appleby.

The Australian, who had been on nine-under after his first three rounds, fell off badly as he endured a nightmare six-over-par round of 76 on the final day.

Woods, who presented Choi with the trophy at the Congressional country club in Bethesda, Maryland after "a perfect week", finished tied for sixth with Robert Allenby on two-under after an even-par final round.

"This tournament is just too big for me to really absorb right now," Choi said afterwards.

"But it's a very big win for me and definitely the biggest win of my career."

It is Choi's second high-profile tournament win on the PGA Tour this season, after he also collected the Memorial trophy from another golfing legend, Jack Nicklaus, in May.
