Clark on course for maiden PGA tour victory

08/06/2008

Tim Clark leads the Stanford St Jude Championship in Memphis by two strokes after carding a third round of six-under-par.

Clarke is yet to register a win on the PGA tour, but having finished second on six occasions the South African looks ready to finally breakthrough.

Starting the day in 26th place, Clarke carded an error-free round to rocket up the leaderboard in what remained tricky conditions in Memphis.

The 32-year-old made a birdie at the second hole but had to settle for pars for most of his round before producing an excellent finish to the back nine.

He holed three birdies and an eagle over the last four holes to move to the top of the leaderboard.

Clark remains relaxed about the prospect of winning his first PGA tour title, insisting it is bound to come eventually and that he just has to keep playing solid golf.

He said: "I feel like I've given myself chances to win. I'm Just going to take the position that it's going to happen at some stage. I just need to go out and play and see what happens come the end of the week."

Clark's compatriot, Trevor Immelman is in second place on three-under. The current US Masters champion followed up his round of 66 yesterday with a round of 67 on day three.

Immelman made six birdies and three bogeys to put himself in contention to take the title on Sunday. Also in the hunt are Bill Haas, Alex Cejka, Marc Turnesa and Gavin Coles who are all tied with Immelman on three-under for the tournament.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18628607-ADNFCR
