Consistent Karlsson takes lead
16/11/2007
Sweden's Robert Karlsson has taken a four-shot lead after the second round of the Hong Kong Open by carding his second consecutive 64.
The 38-year-old went bogey-free for the second day in succession with an almost identical round to his first day effort, and his consistency paid off as he built a healthy lead over the chasing pack.
Overnight leader KJ Choi slumped from an eight-under-par first round to card a two-over round of 72 on the second day, dropping him from first to joint 12th on the leaderboard.
Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez moved into second on eight under par overall with a 67 on day two, following up his 65 from the first round.
He is a single shot clear of nine players all tied on seven-under for the tournament - a group that includes England's Simon Dyson, Scotland's Barry Hume and Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell.
South Africa's Trevor Immelman recorded the round of the day, equalling Choi's 62 from the first day as he moved into contention among the players tied for third. His first round was a one-over-par 71.
Like the Korean, Wales' Garry Houston, who was second overnight, endured a difficult second day following up his 63 with a 71 taking him into the group in a tie for 12th.
European Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo just made the cut, finishing one under par through his two rounds of 68 and 71.
