Curtis and Moore lead the way

16/09/2006

American duo Ben Curtis and Ryan Moore have the lead at the halfway stage of the Lumber Classic in Pennsylvania.

The pair sit on nine-under, one shot clear of the chasing pack, after respective rounds of three-under par and five-under par.

Curtis, who won the 2003 British Open, fired five birdies in his 69, while Moore did the same but avoided making any bogeys to close with one of the rounds of the day, a 67.

Chasing them are three players on eight-under: Sean O'Hair, Charles Howell III and overnight leader Nicholas Thompson.

England's Greg Owen is also in contention after a four-under par round of 68 moved him up to seven-under overall, two shots off the lead.

Owen started well, carding four birdies inside the first six holes before bogeys on the ninth and 15th pegged him back.

However, an eagle on the 16th saw him return to four-under for the day and put him in a good position going into the final two days.

Three shots behind Owen is fellow Englishman Justin Rose, who moved to four-under overall after a one-under par 71 on day two.

Rose enjoyed a turbulent day, making five birdies but also four bogeys, including three on the back nine.

However, it was no match for 16-year-old Michelle Wie, who carded her worst score in a male event to finish 14-over par.

The American made just a solitary birdie all day and had to endure a nightmare round which included eight bogeys and one double bogey.

The double bogey, which came at the fourth, was sandwiched in between two bogeys, resulting in her dropping six shots in the first six holes.

Wie finished on nine-over par for the day.
