Donald claims Texas lead
28/04/2007
England's Luke Donald tops the leaderboard on seven-under-par at the Byron Nelson Championship in Texas at the halfway stage.
Donald is one shot clear of a group of players on six-under, including Brett Wetterich, Sean O'Hair and Sweden's Fredrik Jacobson.
The Englishman was able to maintain his overnight lead by carding a second round 66 (four-under-par) to hold off his challengers.
Donald got his day off to a tremendous start with a birdie at the opening hole, he went on to make a further four birdies and dropped just one shot in what was a solid round.
The 29-year-old has enjoyed success at the tournament in the past and said it was a course he enjoyed playing on.
He said: "You don't have to overpower it, you don't have to be ultra-long to be successful. It's more about placing it. I have good thoughts and good feelings about this place when I play here, and it shows."
Wetterich had been able to keep pace with Donald until the Englishman chipped in from the edge of the 17th green to inch ahead but Wetterich says he is comfortable with his position after two rounds.
The American had a mistake-free round but was only able to pick up two shots on his way round the Cottonwood Valley course.
Jacobsen carded his second consecutive round of three-under to stay in touching distance of the leader. After a slow start he steadily picked up shots on the back nine to finish the day one-shot back.
