Edfors holds narrow lead in Doha

26/01/2008

Sweden's Johan Edfors will take a one-shot advantage over the rest of the field into the final round of the Qatar Masters in Doha.

Edfors tops the leaderboard on 12-under after a third-round 69 preserved his position despite Andrew Coltart eating into his lead with a superb day out on the course.

The Scot slotted nine birdies to return with a 65 and move on to Edfors' shoulder on 11-under.

Coltart is only appearing in the competition by virtue of a previous win at the event after he lost his European Tour card last year.

A top-ten finish tomorrow would ensure he regains his spot for next year.

A host of big names lurk in contention with Edfors' compatriot Henrik Stenson usefully-placed on ten-under alongside South Africa's Charles Schwartzel while Colin Montgomerie lies further back on eight-under.

Another former champion, Australia's Adam Scott, is also firmly in the mix after finishing the day on nine-under.

Northern Irish teenager Rory McIlroy will also being looking for a strong finish after he progressed to eight-under.

However England's Lee Westwood, who led the tournament after the first round, looks unlikely to trouble the trophy's engravers after a fluctuating round of 73 saw him slip to six-under.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18442557-ADNFCR
