English duo top leaderboard
27/07/2007
English duo Zane Scotland and Lee Slattery share the lead at the halfway stage of the Players' Championship of Europe.
Scotland, playing only his second European Tour event, birdied the last to card a four-under-par 68 to lie on nine under.
Slattery also birdied the final hole for a three-under-par 69 to share the lead.
On an action-packed day, overnight leader Simon Khan crashed out after a disastrous eight over.
Englishman Khan, who began the day seven under, missed the cut after six bogeys on the last five holes.
Sweden's Henrik Stenson, who had a disastrous front nine of 40, was disqualified after losing count of how many shots he took at the 17th, making him unable to sign his card.
Oliver Wilson and Argentina's Andres Romero are tied for third on eight under in Hamburg.
Joint leader Scotland said he was pleased with his form this year.
"I'm playing well. I've been playing well for a couple of months now and the way the first two days have gone, there's no reason why I can't carry on," Scotland said.
"I am enjoying this little stretch and will try and keep the momentum going."
Slattery, who made three birdies, admitted the weather conditions were testing.
"It was like four seasons in one day out there and that messes with your concentration levels. I had to work very hard out there but I'll have an early night tonight, have a good meal and refuel," Slattery said.
