English trio in Classic contention
11/06/2006
David Howell is one of three Englishman within three shots of the lead going into the final round of the Barclays Classic in New York.
Howell had led at the halfway stage but he dropped back slightly after a two-over-par third round of 73 and his now two shots behind Billy Andrade on eight-under.
However, both Ian Poulter and Luke Donald will also be in the hunt on the final day as they lie a further shot down on five-under.
Poulter was the big mover on the third day, responding to just making the cut by firing a six-under-par 65, including six birdies in eight holes between five and 12.
Donald enjoyed a steadier round as he shot a level-par 71 and sits alongside Poulter and Australian Stuart Appleby at three behind the leader.
That leader is Andrade, who fired three birdies on his way to a two-under-par round of 69.
The American leapfrogged the other man to lead at halfway, Vijay Singh, who was one-over for the day with a 72.
However, Singh will still be confident he can claim his first win this year as he is just one behind Andrade, alongside Australian Adam Scott, who shot a two-under par 69.
