Faldo relishes Ryder Cup rehearsal
16/11/2006
Nick Faldo has said he expects next year's Seve Trophy to provide some useful pointers for the 2008 Ryder Cup.
Faldo takes over from Ian Woosnam as Europe's Ryder Cup captain and has the job of defending the trophy he won at the K Club in September on American soil.
Despite the European team's impressive run of three straight victories, Faldo knows winning a fourth in the American team's backyard will be no pushover.
As part of his preparations, Faldo, a veteran of 11 Ryder Cups as a player, will captain the Britain and Ireland team at next year's Seve Trophy.
Faldo hopes that the tournament will provide an opportunity for him to practice his own captaincy skills, while also getting a closer look at some of Europe's top players in foursome and four-ball action.
"I don't think it's a coincidence that Europe has remained undefeated in Ryder Cup matches since the Seve Trophy began in 2000," he said.
Faldo, who won six majors during his playing career, succeeds Colin Montgomerie as captain of the Britain and Ireland team.
He will be up against a continental Europe side captained by the man who gave his name to the trophy, Seve Ballesteros.
The 2007 Seve Trophy will be held at the Heritage resort near Dublin and gets underway on September 27th.
