Form concern for Ryder Cup star McGinley
08/09/2006
Paul McGinley has acknowledged that his poor form is a major source of concern as he prepares for the Ryder Cup clash at the K Club in two weeks' time.
The Irish golfer today crashed out of the Singapore Open after missing the halfway cut for the second tour event in succession.
His woeful form saw him card rounds of 76 and 77 and he admitted as he left the course: "It is a big worry ahead of the Ryder Cup."
The two-time Ryder Cup star holed the decisive putt at the Belfry in 2002 and he added: "I don't want to be off form going into the match.
"I will have a week off next week, go back to Ireland and work on it. My putting is not good. I'm also driving the balls badly. I'm just not hitting the shots I should be."
The 39-year-old Dubliner claimed the ninth automatic qualifying place to make Ian Woosnam's Ryder Cup team but has had only one top-ten finish since January.
Meanwhile, Ernie Els had no such misfortune today as he shot a course record six-under-par 65 for a two-shot clubhouse lead.
